Nominated for Sports Book of the Year 2022

During Covid-19, football stadiums around the world were shut down. But the traditional Danish division clubs were, miraculously, allowed to remain open. Here, Jonas Villumsen found refuge from an overwhelming global situation and rediscovered his love for a sport and a community that often drowns in million-dollar contracts, corruption, and slave-like conditions at the elite level. Villumsen documents the quiet Danish national spirit with witty and affectionate atmospheric portraits from the local green turf, where even the uninitiated get a special insight into a Sunday sanctuary.
