On the anniversary of his best friend’s suicide, Andedrengen sets out for the Amazon jungle. He seeks the hidden jungle temple, where the cosmic cactus brew, ayahuasca, can dissolve time and open the gateway to the dead. A rupture in reality appears, and Andedrengen is thrust into a kaleidoscopic journey to return his friend’s decaying corpse to the underworld. Without fully understanding how, he one day finds himself in a football stadium.

It is here, with his back to the game, that he learns the beauty of sorrow, the downfall, and what it truly means to be human.

"Uncle Hawaii's ability to seamlessly weave the fantastic and the existential creates a reading experience that transcends the ordinary.

"Ret is a rhythmic (devastation) of Tom Kristensen-like proportions, with a taste of Henry Miller – in other words, TRUE literature, the kind where honesty drips from the pages as they are turned."
– Kosmos

"I am completely blown away! I absolutely love it—the language, the madness, the vulnerability! All of it!"
– Copenhagen Main Library

"Hand on heart – this one is a MUST-read. I've never read a book this fast."
– Absalons Radio

Onkel Hawaii is a writer, illustrator, and, in reality, 13 ducks in a trench coat. His books are known for jazzy existentialism and grotesque morbidity.
The author was briefly part of the avant-garde English death cult Doom Patrol. He has won—but mostly lost—a slew of literary awards: the Karen Blixen Prize, the Delbanco Prize, the Asger Schnack Prize, the Ping Prize, and Mr. Wet T-shirt Næstved.
